Good to know

Permits, altitude and Sikkim's clean-and-green rules matter here.

Do’s in Sikkim & Darjeeling

  • Carry your ID and arrange permits for protected areas (Nathula, Gurudongmar).
  • Acclimatise before North Sikkim's high-altitude lakes and valleys.
  • Carry cash: ATMs are patchy once you leave Gangtok.
  • Pack warm layers and rain protection year-round.
  • Remove shoes and avoid flash photography inside monasteries.

Don’ts in Sikkim & Darjeeling

  • Don't carry single-use plastic. It's restricted across the state.
  • Don't skip the permit paperwork; you'll be turned back without it.
  • Don't expect a strong mobile network in North Sikkim.
  • Don't disturb prayer flags, rituals or monastery services.
