Temple etiquette, cash, and a few local customs go a long way.
Do’s in Bali
- Wear a sarong at temples (usually provided at the entrance).
- Carry small cash: many warungs, markets and drivers are cash-only.
- Step around the daily canang sari offerings on the pavement.
- Use Grab/Gojek or a hired driver rather than unmetered taxis.
- Stay hydrated and use sunscreen: the sun is stronger than it feels.
Don’ts in Bali
- Don't touch anyone's head or point at people with your feet.
- Don't enter temples without a sarong or during ceremonies you're not part of.
- Don't drink tap water. Stick to bottled/filtered.
- Don't ride a scooter without a helmet and a valid licence.
